Why do some people fail to improve in something they are really good at initially after a certain point?

People fail to improve in something they are really good at initially after certain point because they reach to the comfort zone, this is what they know, and it work, why try any other way, without knowing or even try to know anything about the other ways, which might be easier, and faster, may be less effort, they don’t want to challenge themselves.

Basically, they don’t realize that  every process, procedure, or check that has been developed by a person has been done at a given moment in time, based on their knowledge of the system or the output  and the tools at that point and time.

Things and circumstances change all the time, the knowledge has been developed and the system has been upgrading, maybe a new one comes out, and anew tools have been invented. Most people who are on the comfort zone they don’t know the fact that, every solution was created, is based on incomplete information, or on information that was available at this specific time, for this specific situation.  This information have changed and developed with time, and if they don’t follow this changes and development they will fall behind, they ignore the fact that every single run through a process is an opportunity to learn.

Look what happened to Nokia, everyone know the story about this company no need to repeat it.  The moral of the story is they reach to the comfort zone  and stayed there for too long, and one night  they disappeared of the market. Another example, recently  Hertz, they live on the comfort zone and they never developed or improve when a new competitive appeared on the market such as Uber, and Lyft.  I predict same thing will happened to many motels with the appearance of Airbnb.

This is just a few examples of companies and organizations; the same aspects apply to the individuals as well.

It is okay to reach to the comfort zone; yet, it is dangerous to stay there for too long. It prevents people from improving, it stops them from achieving all the things they are capable of. Comfort zone leaves people behind, a person who stayed on the comfort zone always will be in the bottom of the list, smart people take it as a moment to catch breath, they spent some time there, then they move forward.

Usually people who attend stay in the comfort zone afraid of taking any risk; it is good to be careful but you have to take action. all ideas are gold, but put methods in place to get these ideas through a process that can validate them to see if they have merit. Don’t sleep on one idea.

At the end of the day we have to admit, we don’t know everything when we decide on how we want to start doing something; there’s always more to learn, more to understand.
